Mission
God is on Mission!
God has an important assignment that He aims to complete for the sake of His glory!
John 3:16–17says,
“16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
God had a mission – to love the world, and to save the world, and to give eternal life, and this He does through sending Jesus for men to believe in.
Real God, Real Salvation
- Repentance (mine) and Forgiveness (His) are real actions
Real Relationship
- Real Jesus, you can touch and feel him, He eats in from of them
- Real relationship with the risen and alive Jesus.
Real Death, Real Resurrection
- Jesus was spiritually minded, yet so real.
- They need to see the scars, the holes in our hands and feet.
- The World needs a flesh and blood testimony: “Touch me and see”
” 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” John 20:21 – 23
- Incarnation – humbly submitted to the culture without sinning.
- Empowered – We need His Spirit so that we can infiltrate
Everyone who serves, from the parking attendant to the barista, to the preacher and the children’s ministry leader, to the person who welcomes at the door or takes info to a visitor – all of us are on Mission! Everything we do for Him on Sunday or midweek saves souls! Let’s think of it in this light!
Real Reasons Why Jesus Was Sent:
“And she will bear a son and you shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
“And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.” Mark 1:38
“But He said to them, “It is right for Me to proclaim the gospel, the kingdom of God, to the other cities, because for this I was sent.” Luke 4:43
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
“The thief does not come except that he may steal, and kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life and may have it abundantly.” John 10:10
“I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.” John 12:46
“…and to await His Son from Heaven, whom He raised from the dead, Jesus, the One delivering us from the coming wrath.” 1 Thessalonians 1:10
“…who gave Himself on our behalf, that He might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify a special people for Himself, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:14
“Faithful is the Word and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” 1 Timothy 1:15
“You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.” 1 John 3:5
“The one practicing sin is of the devil, because the devil sins from the beginning. For this reason the Son of God was revealed, that He might demolish the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8
“And we know that the Son of God has come, and He has given to us an understanding that we may know the true One…” 1 John 5:20
“But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has abolished death…” 2 Tim 1:10
It is at the Cross that Jesus accomplished God’s work. He came not to do His own will but He said “Father, not my will be done, but Yours.” He did what God had sent Him to do. Jesus loves the Father, Jesus was willing and Jesus loved us. He did it for God’s glory and brought God’s glory to every one of us.
His death saves sinners who believe in Him, destroys death, sin, judgment and the devil’s work. It is at the Cross of the One who submitted Himself to the Fathers will, that we are saved!
After Jesus is resurrected we find Jesus, with all authority, now doing what God did; He sends us. The Great Commission is given in each of the 4 gospels. Let’s look into these scriptures:
Matthew 28:18 – 20
8 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
It is important that we consider the context in which we live and make Jesus relevant to them. At the same time we need to have a heart to cross borders and cultures for the sake of the Gospel.
Mark 16:15 – 20
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover. 19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.”
There is an ALL-ness to the Gospel. Jesus mission is not just to save peoples souls but to save, redeem and restore all creation.
- Preach to ALL the World. (Everywhere)
- Preach ALL the Gospel (Whole Counsel of God)
- ALL of the person (Body, Soul, Spirit, Relationships, Finances…)
Luke 24:39 – 49
39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40 And when he had said this, he showed them His hands and His feet. 41 And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, He said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and He took it and ate before them. 44 Then He said to them, “These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
